What is MK LetNet?
Milton Keynes LetNet is a community skill-sharing and trading network run entirely by local residents.
Instead of using pounds and pence, members exchange practical help, everyday services, and borrowed items using our own local currency, the “Concrete Cow”. It’s a simple, friendly way to get things done, learn new skills, and support neighbours, all without spending cash.
(Fun fact: LETS stands for Local Exchange and Trading System, a worldwide model for community-powered exchange!)

How Do “Concrete Cows” (CCs) Work?
What is a Concrete Cow (CC)?
CCs are our local exchange units, named after Milton Keynes’ iconic Concrete Cows! They aren’t physical coins or notes; they exist entirely within our secure online member accounts. They have no cash value, so you never pay or earn real money.
How is the value decided?
Every trade is completely negotiable between members. Usually, trades are based roughly on time (e.g., 1 hour of help = a set amount of CCs), but you and your trading partner agree beforehand.
Do I need to earn CCs before I can spend them?
No! We actively encourage new members to start requesting help right away. When you spend CCs before earning them, your account simply reflects a friendly promise to help another member down the road when you’re ready. No interest, no penalties, and no stress.
